Program for Academic and Student Success (PASS)
The University College's Program for Academic & Student Success (PASS) is a university-wide retention program that targets at-risk students who have the potential to benefit from intensive academic support. All students who have been re-admitted to the university in lieu of suspension participate in PASS. Students may be re-admitted by either the University's appeals committee or by a college dean. Each semester, approximately 50-60 students participate in the program.
Prior to registration for the up-coming semester, PASS Students meet with a University College professional advisor. During this initial meeting, conditions of the student's re-admission are discussed, campus resources are outlined and a contract is completed.
During the semester, PASS students visit the Academic Center's study hall for a prescribed number of hours each week. In addition, students are invited to participate in Academic Center services such as workshops and tutoring during the day and night. PASS Students are encouraged to enroll in certain courses, as appropriate: Study Skills Improvement (ACSK 1010), Critical Thinking and Problem Solving (ACSK 1020), and Educational & Vocational Guidance (OR 1030). PASS Students receive on-going, automated feedback concerning total number of hours spent in Study-Hall. Periodically, this information is shared with the appropriate College Dean. Students are encouraged to visit with University College and/or departmental faculty/staff to review midterm grades, receive appropriate referrals/recommendations, and for advising for the following semester.
